PART TIME Music TEACHER POSITION AT OUR Changemaker 
SCHOOL

Terms Of Employment 

9.5 months/approximately 171 days per year. Part-time, average of 8-10 hours per week, $17 an hour. No benefits.

 

Primary Purpose

To provide students with musical, artistic, and developmentally appropriate high quality engaging learning activities. To develop musical skills for performing and musical literacy. To enable students to develop competencies and skills that will prepare them for further studies in music. To assist in the preparation and execution of our holiday and end of year program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated competency in music theory and lesson planning 

  • Experience teaching music to diverse age groups ranging from Pre-K 3 - 8th grade.

  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

  • Ability to work in a Cooperative school environment with significant parental involvement

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification and training (e.g. college degree) or equivalent experience

Major Responsibilities And Duties

  • Introduce the children to different music mediums and methods. 

  • Create age appropriate lesson plans to include: an introduction to musical instruments; musical appreciation of a variety of styles and cultures, tied in when possible to the Morning Story Cycle; musical skills such as soft/loud, fast/slow, call-and-response, etc. 

  • Work with classroom teachers to integrate lesson plans. 

  • Music classes are 30-45 minutes session per class

  • Must be available to help with preparation and practice for holiday and end of year programs

  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents and staff

  • Responsible for determining supplies needed, assist with purchasing, and track supply need and use

  • Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills & professional growth

  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings once a month

  • Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.

  • Non-graded school; no standardized testing

The Circle School is a private, non-profit, family cooperative preschool and elementary school.  We provide small classes, individual attention, and a program that emphasizes teaching peace and a knowledge of world cultures.  We are located at 217 Pershing Ave., San Antonio, Texas (south of Hildebrand between Broadway & N. New Braunfels, near the Witte Museum).
