Art Teacher


Terms Of Employment 

9.5 months/approximately 171 days per year. Part-time, $14 an hour. No benefits.


Primary Purpose
provide students with developmentally appropriate high quality engaging art learning activities. introduce the children to a variety of different artists, art mediums, styles, and methods - while teaching the importance of taking care of materials. Teach art appreciation at an appropriate level. Teach art history at an appropriate level, using Core Knowledge Books (available at school) to help relate to the classroom.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated competency in art mediums, methods, and a variety of artists - well known and local.

  • Experience teaching art to diverse age groups ranging from Pre-K 3 - 8th grade.

  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

  • Ability to work in a Cooperative school environment with significant parental involvement

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification and training (e.g. college degree) or equivalent experience

Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Create age appropriate lesson plans, working with the teachers to coordinate plans to tie into Morning Story/Story Cycle.  Lesson plans to include: an introduction to various artists, mediums, method, art appreciation.

  • Art classes are 30-45 minutes session per class

  • Incorporate culturally diverse methods, materials, and topics within lesson plans.

  • May collaborate with teachers and community on art projects that reflect community interests, current issues, and/or changemaker projects.

  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents and staff.

  • Responsible for determining supplies needed, assist with purchasing, and track supply need and use.

  • May coordinate with art nonprofits for a variety of teaching supplements as well.

  • Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills & professional growth.

  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents.

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings once a month.

  • Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.

  • Non-graded school; no standardized testing.

  • Participate actively in documentation of art work and accomplishments including online journals, photographs, student portfolios.

The Circle School is a private, non-profit, family cooperative preschool and elementary school.  We provide small classes, individual attention, and a program that emphasizes teaching peace and a knowledge of world cultures. We are located at 217 Pershing Ave., San Antonio, Texas (south of Hildebrand between Broadway & N. New Braunfels, near the Witte Museum).
