MORNING / AFTERNOON FUN CAMPS || $35 each week

Morning and Afternoon Fun Camps are offered every week and listed on the Registration form for $35 a week. YOU MAY ONLY ENROLL IN ONE FUN CAMP A WEEK. This is an affordable option for families that need all day care. Fun camp sessions are only available to those enrolled in a program session (listed below) during the same week. Fun camps are relaxed time for games, outside time, free art, and summer fun. Fun camps are not session based.

WEEK 5 || JULY 6-9 (School closed July 5th)

CATS, CATS AND MORE CATS || Barbie Gorelick || Ages 4+ || Morning Session || $72

If you love cats this session is for you! Whether Lions, Tigers, Cheetahs, Leopards or Lynx, we will explore all sorts of cats. And of course we won’t leave out the domesticated varieties that we all love. This session is for feline enthusiasts of Ages 4+.

CARTOONING || Jil Ewing || Ages 5+ || Morning Session || $80

Want to learn how to draw Sponge Bob, Patrick, and other cartoon characters? Would you like to create your own cartoon character? You will do both in this class. Learn how the cartoon characters you love are made from simple shapes. Then use your new knowledge to design your own character. You will make a comic strip and a diorama with your original characters using; pencils, markers, scissors, glue and specialty paper.

CREEPY CRAWLIES || Wayne Dow || Ages 6+ || Morning Session || $80

Mr. "Creepy Crawlie" Wayne makes his return to the Circle School! Come see the world through the eyes of our slithering, creeping, digging fellow citizens. We will have visiting critters: snakes, bugs, varmints and pets to teach us about animal habits and diets, and the symbiosis of the natural environment. Learn how to identify tracks, find animals, learn animal safety and care; but most of all learn to love and appreciate the abundance of life at our feet. This class is designed for older students.

PIECES OF PEACE || Barbie Gorelick || Ages 4+ || Afternoon Session || $72

What are the stories and symbols of working for peace? We all recognize some of the peace signs but where did they come from and how did they originate. We will explore the tradition of peace, peacemakers and the symbols they used to promote their goal. We will also have an opportunity to create our own peace symbols and slogans.

SCULPTURE || Jil Ewing|| Ages 4+ || Afternoon Session || $85

Do you enjoy working with your hands and building things? Then this is the class for you. You will have an opportunity to create 3 dimensional art forms using: clay, wire, paper mache, paint, soap and other fun materials. At the end of the week you’ll have a piggy bank, a mobile, a soap sculpture and other cool 3-D art!

CREEPY CRAWLIES || Wayne Dow || Ages 4-6 || Afternoon Session || $80

Mr. "Creepy Crawlie" Wayne makes his return to the Circle School! Come see the world through the eyes of our slithering, creeping, digging fellow citizens. WEEK 6 || JULY 12-16

PRACTICING PEACE || Terry Ramirez & Blue Gonzales || Ages 4+ || Morning Session || $80

Dear ones, this class will help children find their quiet, explore what peace means to them, and find out what they can do to become peacemakers in their communities. Throughout the week, we will explore ways to find/create peace within ourselves. Projects will include making peace flags, creating a seed/bean labyrinth, coloring mandalas and collecting Pennies for Peace. Activities will include chanting, singing, meditation, and laughter yoga. We will also learn about peacemakers from history, and how they changed the
world through the creative and constructive forces of peace and love. I find that children call on me to be in the present moment, and I look forward to "being" with them. Who knows what the seeds of peace sown today will bear in the future. ***My approach to the meditations will be playful and will include the "peaceful piggy meditation," a ray of sunshine meditation, and a hugging meditation. ***

BIG HEAD WEEK || Katie Pell || Ages 6+ || Morning Session || $90

We will be making some big silly faces in this class. Animals, people (self-portrait!) and a monster too! Come prepared to clue, paint, and tie a variety of materials while looking at Dubuffet, Hundertwasser, and our own sweet mugs!

FEELING GROOVY || Terry Ramirez & Blue Gonzales || Ages 4+ || Afternoon Session || $85

This is a relaxing and spirited camp for Ages 4+. Campers will be introduced to the folk music of Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Ella Jenkins, Cat Stevens, and Elizabeth Mitchell. Not only will campers sing and
dance, but they will also make and play folk instruments. Themes will include ecology, peace, working together, family, and self-esteem. At the end of the week we will have a sing along at the exhibition, and students will have a CD to take home.

PSYCHEDELIC || Katie Pell || Ages 6+ || Afternoon Session || $90

In honor of San Antonio Museum of Art’s Psychedelic exhibit, we will spend a week on the optical mayhem of psychedelia. Take out your black light, for day glo, swirly, whirly pop art. Provide a white t-shirt for tie dye and come be groovy.

WEEK 7 || JULY 19-23

REALLY ROSIE REVELRY || Terry Ramirez & Cynthia Brown || Ages 5+ || Two-Week Morning & Afternoon Session || $325

This two-week theater session will culminate in a performance of songs from the musical, Really Rosie, by Carol King based on the beloved Nutshell Library books by Maurice Sendak. Children will follow Rosie and her friends as they dream of stardom. The program will feature favorites such as: "Chicken Soup with Rice," "Pierre," "One was Johnny," "Alligators All Around," and "Really Rosie." Students will also work on the scenery, costumes, and props. If you like working together, working hard, and having fun then this camp is for you. ***This is an intensive camp which requires additional rehearsal time at home.***

ART MIX FOR YOUNG CHILDREN || Susan Oaks || Ages 4-6 || Morning Session || $85

Ms. Susan will provide mixed media opportunities and instruction taught in a developmentally appropriate way. Students will be introduced to drawing, 3D sculpture, collage, weaving, sewing, ‘beautiful trash’ and other activities. Ms. Susan will encourage exploration of inner creativity!

CHEMISTRY CREATIONS || Stacey Everett || Ages 4-6 || Afternoon Session || $85 -- THIS SESSION IS NOW FULL

All kinds of fun things are created with chemistry. We will create some of those things in this class. This week we will make bouncy balls, rocks and other interesting things that surround us everyday. Before the week is over we will even break a pencil with water.

WEEK 8 || JULY 26-30

REALLY ROSIE REVELRY || Second week of the all day two week session.

EXCITING ELECTRICITY || Stacey Everett || Ages 4-6 || Morning Session || $85 -- THIS SESSION IS NOW FULL

Every seen paper jump? Had your hair stand on end? Made a battery? Those are just some of the interesting adventures we will have in this class. We will explore the world of electricity, what it can do and how we use it.

MASKED MATH || Stacey Everett || Ages 4-6 || Afternoon Session || $85

Math is all around us. In this class we will play games and do activities that will expand critical thinking, spatial reasoning and enhance mathematical skills. All without even realizing it!

WEEK 9 ||AUGUST 2-6

FELTING THE HANDS ON WAY ||Terry Ramirez || Ages 5+ || Morning Session || $80

Calling all crafty campers... Join us for hand-stitched felt fun. Students will learn basics of sewing with wool felt and simple embroidery stitches in a collaborative ans creative environment. Playful, yet practical, projects will include a tooth fairy pillow, a small purse, and a journal. Whimsy and imperfection are welcome, hard work and creativity required.

JUST ME AND MERCER MAYER || Veggie Gonzales || Ages 4+ || Morning Session || $80

Come hang out with Little Critter and his friends! A week long exploration of life lessons as thought by Mercer Mayers little critter books. Camp will culminate with our own Little Critter story.

CAMP ANIMAL PLANET || Jenn Khoshbin & Paul Lewis || Ages 4+|| Afternoon Session || $85

Back by popular demand! This week animals will fill the school each day, as we will have new fabulous visits to the school from organizations such as: Wild Animal Orphanage; Greyhound Rescue; Primarily Primates; VOICE for Animals; Guide Dogs of Texas; Responsible Pet Owners Alliance; and reptiles from the South Texas Herpetological Society. Don’t miss this unique experience from our San Antonio animal rights community, and learn how we can continue to live humanely with our fellow creatures. Wag, Wag, Wag.

TURN AROUND WE ALL FALL DOWN || Veggie Gonzales || Ages 4+ || Afternoon Session || $85

Two giant steps, one umbrella! One, two, three red light! Campers will enjoy a week of movement, songs, and fun! We will learn movement songs and games in this session designed to introduce the tradition of kids games. Songs such as Mother May I, Hokey Pokey, London Bridges will bring joy to the week! Hand clapping games and jump roping will also be introduced.

 

Curriculum

The Circle School's curriculum is inspired by the work of Nicholas Roerich and a synthesis of methods and insights taken from the work of many educators. Teachers at the school are given freedom to teach to their passions. Teachers continue to study the history of The Circle School teaching philosphy and seek out new ways of ensuring the complete education of each student. Teachers incorporate the below "family tree":
